Fat Transfer

The fat transfer, fat grafting, and autologous fat grafting, procedures are all relatively new procedures. All are referring to the moving of fat cells from one part of the body where there is excess fat and transferring them to an area of deficiency of fat cells. The fat can be transferred to several areas of the body including the cheeks, lips, lower eyelids, nasal labial folds, and marionette lines.

The fat transfer is typically done while the patient is under general anesthesia. The fat is taken from one area of the body in a sterile fashion. The fat is then processed and transferred to the face using a micro droplet technique to evenly distribute the fat to the desired area. Swelling is typically noted after surgery and bruising can also result. In some cases multiple sessions of fat transfer may be necessary to achieve the desired result, though a single session of fat grafting provides noticeable and pleasing results.
